The position
We are seeking a diligent and proactive Associate Counsel to join our legal team in Brazil. The successful candidate will focus on compliance matters related to blue-collar workers. This role involves ensuring that the company adheres to labor laws and regulations, implementing compliance programs, and providing legal support on employment-related issues.
Responsibilities
Compliance Management:
- Develop, implement, and monitor compliance programs related to blue-collar workforce regulations.
- Ensure the company adheres to all relevant labor laws and employment regulations in Brazil.
- Conduct regular compliance audits and risk assessments.
Policy Development:
- Draft, review, and update internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Advise management on the implications of new and existing labor laws.
Training and Education:
- Provide training to management and employees on compliance issues and ethical conduct.
- Develop educational materials and conduct workshops to promote a culture of compliance.
Legal Support:
- Provide legal advice on employment-related issues, including hiring, termination, workplace safety, and employee relations.
- Handle and resolve labor disputes and grievances.
- Represent the company in negotiations, mediations, and proceedings before labor courts and regulatory agencies.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain documentation related to compliance activities and labor relations.
- Generate reports on compliance status and issues for senior management.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with HR, operations, and other departments to ensure cohesive compliance practices.
- Liaise with external legal counsel and regulatory authorities as needed.
Requirements
- Law degree from an accredited law school and active membersh with a state Bar association.
- Postgraduate qualifications in Law, Compliance, or related fields are a plus.
- Minimum of 4-5 years of experience in compliance or employment law, preferably with a focus on blue-collar workforce issues.
- Experience in a corporate legal department or law firm is desirable.
- Familiarity with Brazilian labor laws and regulations.
- Strong knowledge of compliance and employment law in Brazil.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively.
- Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in Portuguese and English, both written and spoken.
